The Ecclesfield Gala was started by the MacMillan Nurses over 25 years ago and for the last few years has been run by a small group of volunteers based in Ecclesfield, Chapeltown and the surrounding areas.
Over the years the Gala has raised in excess of £100,000, (2006 being a record figure of £8,760, and 2007 nearly as much) which has been used to assist in the costs of the Palliative Care Unit at the Northern General Hospital, the Mobile Lymphodena Unit, MacMillan Nurses for the City of Sheffield and the provision of monetary grants for people in need suffering from cancer.
We need volunteers not just to help on the day of the Gala but also in organising things prior to making it a successful and rewarding day. This includes transport, collecting books, bric-abrac, records, cds etc. to sell on the day, chasing local businesses for items that can be raffled on the day.
This is a great day for MacMillan Cancer Support and Ecclesfield and surrounding communities.
We are sure you all know or have known somebody suffering from cancer so please contact us with any help you can offer.
